designing a new sweetgreen experience

For an internal team challenge, each designer worked individually to create an innovative and visually stunning restaurant environment that highlighted Sweetgreen’s core design principles, elevated the guest experience, and made a lasting impression.

My proposal envisions a new store format, nicknamed the Sweetgreen Kitchen, that focuses on enhancing the in-store dining experience through guest interaction. In this format hospitality is at the forefront of the restaurant with a hex-shaped chef’s counter, allowing guests to experience live demos and tasting events while waiting for their meal. The layout is designed to provide every guest with an optimal view of the chef’s counter or the prep window at the rear of the space, highlighting the quality and freshness of Sweetgreen’s made-from-scratch food.

The design palette evokes nostalgia associated with traditional American diners through booth seating, custom wallpaper, chrome accents, and wood paneling. A feature millwork pantry near the entrance highlights cookware collabs, kitchen necessities, and Sweetgreen’s farm partners, encouraging guests to bring a piece of the Sweetgreen Kitchen home with them.
